Make a fixture list room by room
Record the fixture type, approximate height and the surfaces you want considered. Useful examples include pendant exteriors, accessible wall lights, permitted removable shades and ceiling-fixture exteriors. Identify coated metals, glass, crystal, fabric, antiques and anything already loose or damaged.
Describe obstructions such as an island, bed, stairwell or fixed cabinetry. Do not climb or dismantle a fitting just to prepare the enquiry. An ordinary room photo and a model reference can be enough to start a scope review. The provider still needs to decide whether the proposed access and method are suitable.
Agree on power and access responsibilities
Kichler's care guidance emphasizes both electricity and secure access. Ask the provider how the appropriate power arrangement is established and who is responsible for it. A cleaning request should not quietly become electrical work because a fitting flickers or a component needs attention.
A fixture above stairs may require specialist access, while delicate components may need specialist handling. Confirm these before agreeing on a price. Keep rewiring, fault diagnosis, installation and unsupported height work outside an ordinary exterior-cleaning scope. If the requested cleaning cannot be done under the agreed arrangements, it should be paused and discussed.
Match the work to the finish and construction
Identify manufacturer care information where available. Ask about the surfaces to be contacted, product compatibility and whether any particular removable pieces can be handled. General-purpose glass cleaning is not an automatic approval for a coating, crystal, decorative metal or an assembled electrical fitting.
State whether bulbs, shades, crystals and other pieces are included, excluded or require a separate proposal. Photograph or list loose parts and pre-existing damage in the job record without sharing private household documents. The point is to account for agreed components and protect a clear scope, not to certify the fixture's electrical condition.
Compare an ordinary clean with specialist chandelier work
A household request may concern reachable exterior dust on a few modern fixtures. A specialist request may involve fragile crystals, intricate construction, conservation concerns or access equipment. Neither job is adequately described by the number of light fittings alone.
Ask providers to identify the fixture list, permitted handling, access arrangements, exclusions and the approval process for changes. A whole-home deep-clean quote should say whether the listed lighting work is actually included. Additional bulbs, components or electrical services should be agreed separately rather than inferred from the cleaning name.
Review the pieces and the remaining concerns
At completion, compare the agreed fixture list and surfaces with the work record. Note persistent marks, worn finishes, loose components or any area excluded for access reasons. Keep cleaning limits distinct from electrical faults or repair recommendations.
For the next visit, retain the fixture models, care instructions and the access arrangement that was confirmed. That makes recurring requests clearer without creating a blanket promise that every fixture can be cleaned the same way or on the same schedule.
Your practical checklist
- List fixtures, materials and the surfaces requested.
- Describe height and nearby obstructions without climbing.
- Share the model and care instructions available.
- Confirm who establishes power and access arrangements.
- Separate permitted shade care from general disassembly.
- Quote high or delicate chandeliers separately.
- Keep electrical faults and repairs outside the ordinary clean.
- Review the fixture and component list at completion.
A few helpful answers.
Does a light-fixture clean include changing bulbs?
Only where a suitable arrangement and explicit scope have been agreed. Do not assume bulb handling, electrical work or general disassembly is included.
Can I add fixtures to a deep-cleaning request?
Yes. List the actual fittings and ask for the permitted exterior work to be stated separately, particularly where height or delicate materials change the arrangements.
