Tile and grout cleaning: what should your quote include?

The useful question is not simply how much a tile clean costs. It is which surfaces, joints and conditions the provider has allowed for. Use this guide to turn a bathroom, entry or kitchen floor into a clear scope before you compare prices.

Requests are welcomed across Calgary. Availability, suitable methods, inclusions and pricing are confirmed for your address before any booking.

Start with the rooms and the surfaces

List each room and separate floors from vertical surfaces. A bathroom may include the floor, shower walls, a tiled bench, a tub surround and small ledges. A kitchen enquiry might concern a floor, a backsplash or both. Name the surfaces that matter instead of assuming the word bathroom or kitchen includes everything.

Give approximate dimensions and explain what furniture or fixtures limit access. There is no need to enter an unsafe area to measure it. For a combined house-cleaning request, say whether grout detail is the main reason for the visit or an extra alongside routine surface cleaning. Those are different ways to allocate time.

Identify the tile, joints and nearby finishes

Record any material information supplied by the installer, builder or manufacturer. Ceramic and porcelain tile, natural stone, grout, flexible joints, metal profiles and applied coatings form an assembly with several care requirements. A durable tile face does not establish the suitability of a method for everything beside it.

The Natural Stone Institute advises identifying the stone before selecting care products. In your request, flag marble, limestone or an unknown stone and share the relevant care instructions. Ask the provider to confirm compatibility with the actual assembly. This guide is a scope planner, not a universal product recipe.

Describe the problem without diagnosing it

A useful description says where the mark is, what you can observe and when you first noticed it. Examples include darkening near an entry, pale residue around shower fittings or a patch beside a missing joint. Cleaning marks, permanent staining, worn material and a moisture concern can call for different responses.

Calgary's water is considered hard by the City, so mineral deposits may be relevant to wet-area cleaning. That does not identify every mark. Avoid labelling unknown residue from appearance alone. If a leak, failed joint or recurring dampness is known, put that in the brief and ask whether assessment should come before cleaning.

Compare the scope before comparing the total

Ask each provider to identify the same rooms, approximate area, wall or floor surfaces and agreed grout detail. Check who moves light items, whether access and protection are included, how an additional condition is priced and what happens if the proposed method is unsuitable. Keep optional sealing or repairs separate.

A lower figure is only comparable when the included work is comparable. Use the quote comparison in your saved cleaning brief with amounts actually supplied by providers. It performs arithmetic on entered figures; it does not establish the market price, suitable method or quality of the work.

Agree on completion and ongoing care

Choose a practical review: the listed area has been addressed, cleaning residue is checked and remaining marks or damaged joints are recorded. Request the actual care instructions for the finished surface. A useful handover distinguishes unresolved condition from an area accidentally left out.

Cleaning does not replace grout, repair a leaking enclosure or make a worn floor newly installed. If renewal is recommended, ask for the reason and a separate scope. This keeps an ordinary cleaning enquiry useful even where some of the next steps belong to an installer or restoration specialist.

Your practical checklist

  • List rooms and separate floor from wall areas.
  • Identify known tile, grout, trim and coatings.
  • Describe visible marks and known leaks without diagnosing them.
  • Provide approximate dimensions and access limits.
  • Separate cleaning, sealing and repair prices.
  • Agree how changes and unsuitable conditions are handled.
  • Record remaining marks and the actual aftercare instructions.

A few helpful answers.

Can every kind of grout be cleaned the same way?

No. Supply the material and installation information available so a provider can review the actual grout, tile, trim and coating. Suitability should be confirmed before a method is agreed.

Can I combine tile cleaning with a deep house clean?

Yes. List tile and grout detail separately alongside the rooms in the deep-clean scope so the time, method and price are clear.
