Identify the floor and finish
Provide the flooring brand or finish information where known. Solid wood, engineered wood, oil, wax and coated finishes can need different care. Bona’s cleaner guidance, for example, identifies particular finished-floor uses rather than every timber surface. Note loose boards, worn coating and previous polish before a method is proposed.
Control grit and moisture
Agree accessible areas and furniture that remains in place. Dry soil removal and a compatible limited-moisture method should suit the actual product guidance. Do not assume steam, excessive water or a universal vinegar mixture is appropriate. Entry grit, furniture feet and floor-edge conditions can affect the work without turning the cleaning task into repair.
Review the material honestly
Check the agreed floor for removable soil and product residue under ordinary light. Scratches, dents, gaps and finish wear should be recorded separately. Buffing, recoating, sanding and restoration are optional specialist enquiries, not an implied part of a floor clean. Retain the material and care information so future visits can use the same confirmed basis.

A few helpful answers.
Does cleaning remove scratches?
No. Scratches and coating loss require a suitable restoration or renewal assessment.
Can steam be assumed safe for wood?
No. Use the floor maker’s actual guidance; heat and moisture suitability should not be inferred from appearance.
